I recently had the chance to photograph and hang out with Vancouver world-fusion group ‘Tambura Rasa’. The group is known to have exceptionally skilled musicians that put together a charged live performance that includes both flamenco dancers and bellydance performances to accentuate their exotic flavors.
I interviewed Ivan Tuckakov, the founder of Tambura Rasa, as I wanted to share with the world how awesome this band is.
When was Tambura Rasa created?
Tambura Rasa has gone through a few processes of metamorphosis in the years since it was created. The first official concert was on june 15 2004 in Vancouver. The first two years of Tambura Rasa were in some way the “childhood”. The next two years, Tambura Rasa went through various journeys and explorations. The last two years is where Tambura Rasa has grown more than ever and has really found its direction, sound and the most solid crew of musicians.
What inspires you musically? In life?
Music is a subtle reminder that life in itself holds a great deal of joy. I’d say that music inspires life and then in return all the little things in life inspire music right back. Any little or big thing in life can present itself as a source of inspiration.
What inspired you to make world music?
Every new composition brings a whole new and unpredictable journey. And our world has so much to offer when we include various cultural influences and backgrounds.
What is it like being in Tambura Rasa?
Fun! The band is not only about music, it is about working together, enjoying each other’s company, traveling together and working out through challenges together and mainly connecting with our audiences during shows. Our goal is to make sure we are not the only ones that leave our shows with smiles on our faces.
What are your future plans?
Lots of touring and a new CD in the fall!
Do you have any thoughts of the relationship between music and dreams?
Music is one way to connect and develop bond with ourselves and the world and people around us. People can go through various emotional states when listening to music and come through on the other side with a whole new perspective and way of being. That’s how I see the role of music and the role of what Tambura Rasa is wanting to create. Dreams are yet another way people experience life that can leave them with various feelings and insights. It’s all about being present to it all and growing through the process.
Did I mention they are an extremely fun group to chill with? Check them out HERE.

Fun for you! Love your blog.
